Workout Basics: Body Types
If I knew about body types at the beginning of my fitness journey, I probably would have had the following benefits:
- Working out right by doing the appropriate programs for my body type.
- Eating right according to my body type
- Reduced the time required to see results by ⅓.
- Saved Up; Time, Money and Energy would have been saved.
You stand a chance of having all these benefits by identifying your body type from these three categories:
- Ectomorphs in lay man’s language are lanky, skinny or slim with very active metabolism and little to no body fat.
- Endomorphs are called thick or fat because they easily gain mass and have a high fat storage.
- Mesomorphs are naturally muscular and built with broad shoulders for males or big hips for women. They may also store fat but not as much as endomorphs.
If you have identified your body type, you are now ready for a preliminary hint on how to eat or workout.
Workout
- If you are slim or lanky, you should do more of full body weight programs such as squats, deadlifts, bench press, leg press, pull ups, lunges and bent over barbell rows. You may want to skip aerobics or isolation programs.
- If you are muscular or built, you can maintain your body shape by following same workout programs listed above. However, aerobics and isolation programs will keep fat at bay.
- If you are thick, you may want to try aerobics using HIIT methods such as boxing, sprints, cycling, jump rope and stairs workout. Ask your trainer about HIIT or look out for the topic coming soon on this blog.
Diet and Supplements
- Ectomorphs will benefit from a proteinous diet, the use of supplements is also necessary at initial stages with care and proper workout.
- A fibre and protein rich diet will benefit mesomorphs but carbs and fats should be avoided. The use of supplements is not necessary.
- Endomorphs should avoid fat, carbs and excess sugars. A fibre and protein rich diet will help, however, starvation will prompt more fat storage than mitigate it. Do not abruptly reduce intake rather swap your dishes. Never use supplements, you don't need them.
As you follow us, we will give you tips on the programs suggested and how to do them right. For now stick to the suggestions given and watch this space. Goodluck!
I think I'm somewhere between a mesomorph and an ectomorph
ReplyDeleteHello Miller, if you aren't naturally muscular , you are most likely an ectomorph. But I agree, there are exceptions and people can fall imbetween two body types.
