We Don't Workout For Fun
I saw a post from Sarah on Facebook about a sport clothing line her friend had just launched. I quickly contacted Sarah indicating my interest to model for the line. Sarah was eager to hook me up, she said “after all nobody works out for fun”.
I had no idea Sarah knew I was working out but that statement got me confused because at the time, I was doing it all for fun.
I still workout for fun but for most people workout is no fun. At seventeen, I had began my fitness journey taking a cue from seventeen year old Tony, who was an aspiring model at the time. I had one goal then, “to have killer abs like Tony”.
At the age of 21, I was an aspiring model, I was a little ripped with a cute face to compliment but unfortunately, not enough height to win the mark. In a bid to improve my chances, I opted for a perfect skin, so I visited a so-called skin care expert. To cut a very long story short, I got my skin botched and that lead to depression.
I wasn't going to lose all my admirers so I said to myself “if I have a botched face, I should get a sexy body so I can win the ladies with my body” and that was exactly what I did. I took workout seriously, doing four to five sessions per week. It paid off, I got sexy, won the ladies and four years later my face got healed. What a happy ending.
- Aesthetics
I started working out for aesthetics which is one of the leading reasons why people workout. But due to depression, I took workout even more seriously still because of aesthetics but unknown to me, workout had worked as an anti-depressants, a confident booster and in promoting clear skin. Models, Actors, Artists and Body Builders all workout for aesthetics.
- Athletic
When Sarah said people don't workout for fun she must have meant those who do it for business like athletes. It's obvious when you see a footballer or basketball or even a sprinter. Footballers and Sprinters have a similar build because they use their legs often while basketballers have a more developed upper body than both. Swimmers and Tennis players rarely bulk up because they don't need those muscles.
- Health
A lot of us propose fitness as a wellness solution but we don't focus on the actual programs that actually promote good health. The programs that promote good health are not extreme, most of what we do are done because of aesthetic or athletic reasons. Crunches will not make your heart beat any better than a brisk walk, a jog or run. So you see that crunches promotes aesthetics more than health. The elderly are more likely to workout solely for health reasons.
Aesthetics, Athletic and Health are the three main reasons why people workout, your workout should promote your reason for working out. As you follow this blog you will find out more about the workout programs and how they may meet your needs. Irrespective of why we workout, we should never forget the additional benefits of working out which includes: regulating a healthy sleep cycle, elevating our mood, preventing sickness, promoting clear skin and boosting confidence.
Awesome stuff guy. I do for Aesthetic and then for health. My body is a go to when ever I feel a little depressed too. I've gained quite some confidence over the years because my perfect body is gradually falling in place. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dhora Olali. Keep at it.
DeleteQuite informative.
ReplyDeleteApart from the people who work out just for Instagram posts, the main reasons for working out aren’t far from these three.
I honestly got bored and even stressed when I jogged on treadmills, but surprisingly I have had a very different and satisfying experience when I jog round the pier.
I think I fall in the category of those who work out for the health benefits.
Thanks for this nice piece.
Thanks Micheal for sharing your thoughts. I believe those who workout for Instagram are categorized under aesthetics and there's no better reason to workout than for health.
Deletebeautifully crafted peace....the storyline had me interested and now i have more reasons to work out.
ReplyDeleteThis should be fun!
Thank You Faith Yeezor
DeleteI really need to start working out -- mainly because of the aesthetics aspect like you mentioned. I can die for ripped bodies. Lol. So I think I should get one. At least to boost my self-confidence. Right now, I'm looking forward to having enough time on my hands for at least 4 workout sessions a week.
ReplyDeleteHello Jacon, Good to know you are taking positive steps, while you try to create time for workout, remember you can also start now even if it's once a week. It's all about priorities. P
